The Rosenberg Diabetes Fundraising Team Shines Brightly
Our family’s #1 fundraising passion is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s annual Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes. This past Sunday was the annual walk and it was fabulous! Our group of 20, primarily friends of daughter Lauren, walked the 5K distance in bright sunshine. After the walk, we adjourned to Lauren’s apartment for a sumptuous brunch.
Most importantly, we smashed our previous fundraising record of $13,000. We’re at $14,000 now and checks are still coming in. In the 10+ years of our fundraising, we have raised over $100,000! Last year, out of 900 non-corporate donors, we were the 30th largest fundraising team. You can donate to our team by clicking on this URL and pressing the orange “Donate to Lauren” button. Or, you can mail your check, payable to JDRF, to Rosenberg Associates.
Ron Santo was an all-star baseball player for the Chicago Cubs from 1960 to 1973 and a Cubs announcer from 1990 until his death last December at the age of 70. Santo was diagnosed with Type I diabetes early in his Cubs career and is the most accomplished athlete in all of professional sports to have played his career with this illness, an inspiration to millions. One of his many legacies is the millions of dollars he raised through his annual Walk For The Cure. It’s so ironic that, as a youngster, Santo was my idol and then, both of my children developed Type I diabetes, just like Santo.
Lauren’s friends are a creative lot. Each year, they come up with a slogan that we put on a commemorative T-shirt that our walkers wear. This year’s was: “Diabetes: You’re a Prick.” (as in diabetics “pricking” their fingers several times a day to test their blood sugar).
